The Independent Schools Association (ISA)

Founded in 1879, the Independent Schools Association is one of the oldest of the independent schools’ organisations. Since 2014, they have been a registered charity and are proud to promote their charitable objectives. ISA provides professional support to over 360 member Headteachers.


As a member The Cedars School benefits from high quality training opportunities and access to a wide range of membership services, while pupils can enjoy an extensive programme of local and national Sporting, Arts and Cultural events.


2022 ISI Focused Compliance & Educational Quality Inspection

We are pleased to share our inspection report which took place in April. In summary, the school was found to be compliant
in all areas; pupils’ personal development was judged to be excellent, and pupils’ achievements to be good.



2018 ISI Regulatory Compliance Inspection

The inspection was what is known as a ‘Regulatory Compliance Inspection’ (RCI), the purpose of which is to report on the school’s compliance with the Independent School Standards Regulations. For one thing, the outcome is binary: compliance or non-compliance. The inspectors only make qualitative judgements therefore where the regulations are phrased to demand them and even then, they use minimalist language to avoid all but strictly necessary quality judgements. Our inspection was successful and we were found compliant on each of the several hundred regulations that relate to independent schools.



2014 Ofsted Inspection

The Cedars received an excellent first Ofsted Inspection Report in 2014 when the school was just six months old, in which the report states:

  • “The school’s Catholic ethos is evident in the strong spiritual life of the school and the commitment to service. Pupils are well cared for, develop good moral principles and behave well. The school operates in close partnership with parents.”
  • “An ethos that encourages intellectual curiosity.”
  • “Good teaching fires pupils’ enthusiasm, sets high expectations and challenges them to think and learn for themselves.”
  • “Excellent relations between staff and pupils ensure that lessons proceed in a purposeful atmosphere of mutual respect and good humour.”
  • “A lively programme of trips, visiting speakers and extra curricular studies.”
  • “All pupils are making good progress as a result of well-planned and effective teaching, regular assessment and helpful feedback. They do very well in English, mathematics and science.”
  • “The excellent tutorial programme contributes strongly to pupils’ personal and academic progress. It enables tutors to devote individual attention to each pupil’s development and help them to improve.”
  • “The curriculum is good and makes strong links between subjects to reinforce skills and knowledge. It is enriched by a good range of trips, visiting speakers and extra-curricular activities.”
  • “The school is well led and managed. Senior leaders have an accurate view of the school’s performance and a clear vision for its further development.”
